Instruction to authors

International Journal

of Vine and Wine Siences

The INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF VINE AND WINE SCIENCES publishes original works and syntheses, as well as research notes in French or in English, in the fields of wine-growing and oenological science and technology.

Articles are submitted for evaluation to two specialised readers, selected by the Chief Editor, either from among the members of the reading committee, or a person of his/her own choice.

Research notes should not contain more than 1 500 words, two illustrations (figure and/or table) and 5 bibliographical references; the summary (English only) should not exceed 150 words. The notes will be subject to an accelerated evaluation procedure.

Manuscripts must be sent in triplicate to the editorial staff, or sent by E-mail to the secretarial staff:

Texts must be accompanied by a floppy disk (cf. Instructions for the computerised preparation of documents).

Presentation of manuscripts: The text must be printed with double spacing, on one side only, and with a margin of at least 5 cm. Pages and lines are to be numbered. The original articles should include:

  1. A brief, precise title, without abbreviations or chemical formulas (except for isotopes). The title will also be given in an abbreviated form.
  2. The surname of the author, preceded by the first name in full.
  3. The full written name and address (with telephone and fax numbers, E-mail address) of the establishment at which the work has been done.

Specify the address for correspondence and for the offprints.

The original works should be written, as far as is possible, according to the following plan:

References to theses, which are part of an examination, are not authorised. The same is true for the notes "unpublished data, manuscript in preparation, manuscript submitted for publication". The note "personal correspondence" is admitted in the text but may not be included in the list of references.

Illustrations: tables and figures must be submitted separately from the text. Tables are to be numbered in Roman numerals, and figures in Arabic numerals. The titles and captions of the tables and figures are to be written in French and English and printed on a separate sheet. The desired place for tables and figures should be indicated on the manuscript, in the margin facing the text.
Figures must be submitted in completed form, so that they may be printed directly. Lettering (symbols, numbers, etc.) must be uniform for all the figures.

Photographs: good-quality proofs must be provided by authors. When microphotographs are sent, please indicate clearly the magnification made.

Units of measurement: should be those of the IS International System of Units (cf. Legal units of measurement. Document International n° 2, OIML. : ISO 1000 Standard: AFNOR Standards NFX 02-006).

Microorganisms: The names that are currently accepted internationally must be respected (synonyms may be indicated between parentheses). Authors are advised to refer to: Journal of General Microbiology 1991, 137 (January).

Enzymes: It is recommended to use the standards published in "Enzyme nomenclature", 1984. Academic Press. San Diego, California.

Yeast: It is recommended to refer to: Yeasts: characteristics and identification. 2e ed. J. A. Barnett, R. W. Payne, D. Yarrow, Photomicrographs Linda Barnett. Cambridge University Presse, 1990.

Correction of articles: Proofs will be sent to the authors indicated for correspondence. They are to be corrected and a copy is to be returned to the editors within 72 hours. If this time limit is not respected, the editor reserves the right to print, after his/her own corrections, without the authorsâ corrections.

Offprints : The first 15 offprints are free of charge. Authors wishing to receive extra offprints must indicate this on the enclosed order form when the final proof is corrected.

Copyright: Should the proofs be accepted for publishing, authors are to transfer their author's rights to the editors of the journal. Any representation or reproduction, whole or partial (with the exception of summaries) is strictly forbidden without the editor's prior consent.
